the two prestigious competition have already finish for the year 2010.

This is the 3rd time formula varsity has been held and 2nd time for Eimarace. Both show increment in participation.

Despite of many problems and changes occurs, the races are still on. That is the spirit!

I would love to see these 2 competition become a championship, and promote motorsport to the youngsters instead of becoming mat rempit and mat ganja or bohsia perhaps.

Both competition main event is the race, but the real thing is the building of the car itself, and how the team is managed so they could deliver the car prior the dateline. This is where the real challenge begin. No ordinary people can setup teams and deliver racing cars for the race on time, they are already magnificent teams from the beginning!

I would like to congratulate those who won the races, and i salute everyone who participate.

The easiest thing to do if you want something is to dream it. Yes. Have a dream. A dream that can be translated into reality.

I was dreaming to enter EIMARace with a team of high spirit and inspired people. A team who is dedicated to their works, putting quality in front of everything. People who are desired to achieve the same goal.

I was dreaming to create a machine, that will beat other contestants, revving all the way to the victory line. A machine powerful enough to shake the rival's faiths.

I was dreaming to have my team on the podium, in the future racing events. Just like BrawnGP making it way to the podium.

I was dreaming, next step? ACTION!

Next race

According to my sources, there will be two inter-university race will be held in 2010.
One is EimaRace 2010 and another one is 3rd Formula Varsity.

EimaRace 2010 is conducted by UTM city Campus, will be held at Dato' Sagor circuit in Perak. The specification is the same but the event will be changed to make it more interesting.

3rd Formula Varsity is conducted by Utem, is rumoured to be held at Melaka newly constructed Circuit, Melaka International Motorsports Circuit. I don't have much info about it, just rumours.

I am looking forward to see this two events, as I will have a much more free time next year. Insyallah.

Yup. Everyone. With many expertise in various field.
And it is more obvious when people who want to build it are newbies and no nothing about building a car. and racing too.

That is why Formula Varsity and Eimarace existed. it challenge the ability of our students to build a car. it is about the design, manufacturing, costing, and many more. Students need to come out with strategies to win the competition.

We need to further one more step forward. Malaysia is a home of motorsports but we lack of our own driver and machine.

Just my opinion.

there are several reasons.
the main point is we are not ready to participate.
in terms of facilities, we are not.
in terms of money, we are not.
in terms of knowledge, we are not.

and in terms of desire, we are not.
this reasons itself is enough to explain why we would not be participating in Eimarace 2009.

One often asked question in motorsports and karting is “How do I find sponsorship?” When asking this question many drivers are looking (or hoping) for an answer as simple as the answer to the question “How do I get to the nearest 7-11?” The truth is that it’s nothing like going to find your local grocery store - it’s more akin to trying to find a needle in a haystack - a very small needle at that in a very large haystack. If that wasn’t enough once you find that needle you also have to make that needle believe that you will take care of it and never leave it in a haystack again!

Key points you need to understand to get sponsored:

* Hardly any company will get financial gain from sponsoring you.
* Motorsport enthusiasts are the kind of company bosses you should target.
* You don’t get sponsored if you don’t go looking for sponsors.
* People are the key.
* You have to approach the person that can sign the cheque.
* Focus on what you will do for your sponsor, not the other way around.
* Once you have a sponsor, you have to work hard at maintaining the relationship.

You might think that you have more talent than anyone else on the grid and that companies should be lining up to sponsor your racing career because in return they will receive untold fame and fortune. You have to understand that there is very little commercial justification for any company to sponsor anyone (even you) when you’re racing in karts, or lower-level formula racing. Maybe when you’re in the WTCC, NASCAR, DTM, or F1 it’ll start being financially viable for some companies to sponsor you. This does not mean that it’s impossible.

There are other reasons that a company or an individual might be interested in supporting your racing which include simple things such as they like you, or they just plain like motorsports and want to be involved but don’t have the money to sponsor a top-level competitor. A passionate motorsport enthusiast who also happens to own a company is a potential sponsor.

How often do you get something you haven’t asked for? When you get punched in the face it’s likely that you asked for it, when you get a date with that girl you fancy you probably asked her (or maybe that’s when you got punched). So the first thing you have to do to get a sponsor is to go around and start asking! If you’re a kid in karting looking for enough money to buy a new kart next season you should make all your family friends and relatives know that you’re racing and need some help in financing your racing - someone just might know someone that wouldn’t mind helping you out. If you’re approaching companies the best thing is to meet someone that knows someone else in the company - cold-calling makes it a lot harder than having a familiar face.

People are everything in motorsports (and life), they can help you find sponsors and meeting other people within motorsport can help you get that next ride (for free or cheaper than you would otherwise). Meet people whenever you can and make a good impression on them. Even if you think there is no way they can help you out remember that people they know might just be people that can sign you that cheque. If the people you meet actually like you then it’s even more likely that they will be able to help you progress - and even hook you up with a sponsor.

Who in a company do you approach with your sponsorship proposal? You won’t get anywhere unless you get to talk to the guy that actually has the ability to sign a cheque for you! There are many positions that seem like they might be the right person to talk to: Sponsorship Manager, Marketing Manager, Advertising Executive. All these titles sound like they are the one that will be able to give you sponsorship - in reality though they might have no to give away a free pen much less a cheque to a racing driver. Their job is likely to be to carry out marketing and sponsorship decisions that were taken by people above them in the organisation. Finding out who actually makes the decisions can be tough, and getting an inside man can be the key. If you meet a lower-level employee in a company this person might be the most important person that you meet in the company because he might give you the information you need to set up a meeting with the right person to approach.

Getting to the meeting with the right person still hasn’t gotten you even half-way there. What do you ask from a sponsor when you’re trying to lure them into sponsoring you? You make sure you don’t ask them for anything - you tell them and ask them what you can do for them and how you will do it and then worry about what they can do for you. Remember that you’re trying to sell yourself here, you’re not trying to steal their money. You have to go into a meeting with a potential partner armed with a solid proposal that you can use rather than trying to talk your way into a deal by promising things you are likely never going to be able to deliver. If your potential sponsor doesn’t know about karting or motorsports marketing then a large part of your proposal should be getting this across.

The key with making a sponsor feel that they are getting they money’s worth is to under-promise and then over-deliver. You want to make sure that your sponsor doesn’t feel short-changed, and you want to make sure that you can actually deliver everything you promised. If you tell them you will be able to provide 3 pit passes to every race and provide cold drinks at the track give them 10 pit passes, 5-star catering, and a corporate karting day with you as an instructor!

Many drivers make the mistake of getting sponsorship and then not giving the sponsor everything they want and more â€“ they forget to nurture their relationship with the sponsor to make it a long lasting partnership. It’s better to keep 3 sponsors for 10 years than it is to find 3 new sponsors every year! You have got to make sure that you deliver on everything you promise and then some. You’ll want to take your sponsor out to dinner now and then to update them on how things are going and you want to send updates after every single race whether you won or crashed out. This shows that you aren’t in it just to get money and then run into your car and forget about the sponsor. The best drivers (marketing-wise) are able to keep the same sponsor for decades.

Not all sponsorship has to be received in cash, product sponsorship is a lot easier for companies to give to you than cold hard cash. If you want to have you and your mechanic look the business at the race track you could approach a clothing store for a few sets of custom-made pit clothing. If you want to have stickers made for your kart you should see if a sticker company is willing to part with some free custom made stickers in return for advertising on your kart and maybe getting your kart to display in their shop for a few days.

Le' Mode' 1st meeting

today, Le'Mode' had it 1st meeting. the number of members also increase from 3 to 6, which is very good and very promising. i like the cooperation given by the team members.

my actual purpose for holding the meeting is to choose the logo for the team, as i have assigned earlier to the designer. so after looking at the designs, i think it need improvements. so ive decided to make a poll to choose the team logo. and all 6 of us give our opinion. after the poll, we have decided the design that we like, and i ask all of the team member to come out with a new designs, based on the old design.

at the same time, i take this opportunity to give another task to the team members. all of them are assigned to a specific part of the racing car, and study the part. it is essential for the team members to understand what they are about to produce. also, i ask them to present their findings in the next meeting.

next meeting will be held on saturday, 21st of march 2009, 9 am, at college food court.

Conclusion of the 2nd meeting

this morning, i held the 2nd meeting with legenda EIMARace team.
the meeting was held at legenda foodcourt, 10 o'clock in the morning.
for this 2nd meeting, only 3 people able to make it including me.
the other two are farhan and nurul. thanks for your time.

in this meeting, we discuss about the name for Legenda EIMARace team.
after a brainstorming session, we have come up we a very unique name, Le'MoDe' , stands for Legenda Motorsport Development.
Le Mode also refers the mode in french.

also, in this meeting, i have given the two members a position and task. they are assigned as the designers, and their 1st task is to create the logo for the team and put a tagline for it.

the meeting last for about 1 hour.

i hope the number of the team members will increase in the next meeting.

Official! EIMAR 2009

EIMAR 2009 is now officially called EIMARace.
EIMARace 2009 consist of static and dynamic events, similar to Formula SAE.
Static events are Technical inspection and Presentation.
Dynamic events are Brake Test, Acceleration Test, Time Trial and Endurance Race.

all of the details will be briefed to team members on 7th of March 2009. please do come to the college for the Team Establishment Meeting.

So, you might be wondering what is this has to do with me?
1stly, let me tell you, there is no such event in Malaysia before. but outside, it is a culture. Formula SAE have a history of almost 30 years. all mechanical, automotive, and other fields students are gathering together for Formula SAE. it is a platform for them to change ideas, technologies, sharing knowledges and know each other.

For Malaysian students to join that events, it will cost a lot. transportation, luggage, accommodation and others. with such event made locally, almost everybody can participate. so, we can start our own culture of Automotive Sport.

From there, we will be sharing knowledge, skill, and open our self to new technologies and ideas.

If EIMARace is successful, it will be a nice part to be included in our CVs or Resume. we can learn so much that it will give us experience.

There are many other benefits that will come as you grow with EIMARace. it creates opportunity to put your knowledge and skill at test. you can better your self by analyzing your performance at EIMARace.

this is just a few benefits that i want to share here. i m saying this on general. you will never really know how this will benefit ourselves individually as we will have difference experience. you might find yourself, your destiny and your buddies in here. who knows?

i have gone through an example of sponsorship proposal. it is awesome. i just need to modify a few parts so it can be applied at EIMAR. the proposal was originally made by University of Evansville for Formula SAE. For your information, Formula SAE is internationally recognized event. the race have history of almost 30 years...

and for EIMAR, this is it first event. it is similar to Formula Varsity organized by UTEM in 2006 and 2008. unlike Formula Varsity which is invitational, EIMAR is open for all higher learning institution, including technical institute and private colleges.

EIMAR stands for Educational Innovation of Motorsports and Automative Race. for 2009, it will be held at Pasir Salak. [Kg Gajah, Dato' Sagor Track]. i am still waiting for the official invitation... for the time being im just making draft of proposals. stay tuned for updates.

Paperwork for [EIMA]

today i have met the head of SOME. he already aware of the project. he wanted me to prepare the paperwork, and he will recommend it, so the team can get sponsor from the college. for the project, i planned to raise about RM25000 of sponsorship. 10k will go to the car, 5k for accessories and promotion, another 10k for team allowance. as you can see, out team consist of many people, so 10k is only a small amount after being divided among us...
i think the college would not sponsor that much of money, maybe just a portion. so i have decided to make a sponsorship proposal to be distributed to other companies for sponsors.
i have already search some material as references for the proposals. it should be ready next week.
